Auditions will be held in an open format, with all auditioners and production staff in the room. We will look at this as an opportunity for students to observe the process transparently, observing the variety of choices, direction, chemistry brought by their fellow actors, and through work with the director and musical director.
The artistic team is aware that auditions are often stressful, but we will be encouraging an inclusive, supportive environment, where everyone can do their best while we put together the puzzle of the casting of SHADY MANOR.
All auditioning students will receive digital access to the full script and audition sides, and copies of the sides will be available at the audition call. If you have further access needs, please let us know how we can accommodate.
The cost of the 14 week class / rehearsal process is $400

Shady Manor
Are you looking for a worthwhile dramatic and musical experience this Winter? Then plan to get involved with Shady Manor, a riveting musical about a nursing home on a trajectory towards tragedy. Shady Manor is an authentic portrayal of the inherent problems in too many of our long-term care facilities. The show’s two dozen songs propel the actions of Shady’s staff and convey the inner thoughts and emotions of its residents and their families. Shady Manor portrays the dramatic collapse of a nursing home and challenges audiences to think about how society is treating our most vulnerable individuals and is a call to action for change.
Shady Manor is an original work by Stagebridge Board Member and student, Prescott Cole. For over twenty-five years, Prescott was the Senior Attorney at California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform who specialized in elder abuse issues and has first-hand knowledge of the failings of our long-term care system. After retiring, Prescott was encouraged to join Stagebridge and developed a full-scale production of Shady Manor. He, along with Stagebridge's musical director, Scrumbly Koldewyn, will bring this production to the stage and also take a trunk show version to senior centers and community spaces throughout the East Bay.
This project is underwritten by the generous support of Stagebridge Board Chair and student, Claire Warhaftig and the law firm of Cotchett Pitre & McCarthy LLP.
